they ARE paradigms
Jul. 30th, 2000 12:34 pmadults that critisize t.v. shows geared toward teenagers really need to get a life. i'm sorry, but not EVERYTHING produced for a teen's pleasure is 'crap' and 'uneducational.' dawson's creek. contains REAL LIFE situations in which i've often been faced, concrete characters with inspiring personalities, great storylines (not to mention great music. i think it's great new artists can take advantage of the advertizing; i've grown to like many of the artists that appear, heh heh)... i don't see anything wrong with these shows. felicity is another prime example. i praise my aunt; she loves the show, and thinks it provides handly life-lessons, big and small. okay, sometimes the characters are a little dramatic, but who doesn't have friends like that in real life? they ARE educational. no, no one can really 'teach you a lesson' (in my opinion, ya gotta learn it the hard way to really LEARN it), but at least they provide a little insight to situations and give different perspectives on things. perception is so important in life, in teeangersand adults. you really have to take into consideration that there is never one perspective, never two, but many. shows like these reveal these different perceptions, and differnet ideas to solve complex or simplistic problems. i think the producers and writers do a great job, and i really hope they don't listen to the older generation who simply say, "it's crap," and haven't taken a deeper look into the show's reality.
