If I could own a wild animal as a (n illegal) pet, it would be a slow loris. They have these really cute human traits, including the way they enjoy belly rubs or scratches. They are terribly endangered though. :( Poor little dudes. Their eyes and other body parts are used for traditional medicine--how horrid! Vendors also remove the teeth with wire cutters because they can be poisonous if they feel threatened and use their venom in the form of a bite (so many of them die from tooth removal alone due to blood loss and infection). I actually think I would rather them be adopted by a loving family than killed and mutilated so senselessly, even though it is wrong to domesticate a wild animal.

If you are feeling generous, please visit the International Animal Rescue and donate, give out leaflets or post a banner on your journal or web site. The slow loris is just one of many animals the organization helps to rescue and rehabilitate in sanctuaries.
